To the uninitiated, February 18th sounds like just some random day. But, if you thought that, you’d be dead wrong. Why? Because today is National Drink Wine Day.
In what seems like a day invented by the Treat Yo Self Society of the Americas, the purpose of National Drink Wine Day, not to be confused with National Wine Day, is to “spread the love and health benefits of wine.” So just think about that while you’re treating yo self to a glass (bottle) of wine; you’re actually being healthy.
Wine is delicious. It gets you drunk. You drink it with cheese. You can cook with it. You can pair all sorts of food with it. You can give it as a gift. You can take vacations specifically to drink it. In short, wine makes the world go round so it makes sense the consumption of it has its own day.
So tonight, you’re going to have to drink something with your dinner. Why not pour yourself a tall glass of wine to wash that food down. Then, pour 3-4 more glasses until that bottle is done. If you’re drinking it with someone, better make it two bottles (just to be safe).
As most of our country is still deep in the clutches of a brutal winter, what’s a better way to warm your soul than with a deep, rich Cabernet? (Well, whiskey might warm more, but that’s neither here nor there.) So as you stare out your frosted-over windows into the howling winds, swirling snow and jagged ice that has become your life, pour some room temperature wine down your throat and remember warm weather will be back eventually.
It’s not every Tuesday that National Drink Wine Day occurs, so when it does, you need to take advantage. Well, it’s not like you should need a reason to drink a bottle of wine by yourself, but when the calendar instructs you to do it, don’t resist. So get out your corkscrews and treat yo self to National Drink Wine Day.
